Margaret Willis Jones (Dean) died Dec. 20, 2014, in Florence, Alabama. Dean was born on Jan. 9, 1924, in Iron City, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frankie Hensley Willis and William Allen Willis; her siblings, Edwin Willis, Charles Willis and Elizabeth Summerford; and her husband, George M. Jones Jr.
She is survived by her brother, William Rayford Willis, Huntsville, Alabama; and her daughters, Susan Parker (Jim), Opelika, Alabama, Sara Hale (Brad), Birmingham, Alabama, and Nancy Burrows, Florence. Dean has five granddaughters, Melissa Malcom, McDonough, Georgia, Jennifer Parker, Alexandria, Virginia, Elizabeth Harris (Jamie), Caroline Campbell (Ben) and Laura Grote (Travis), all of Birmingham, Alabama. Dean welcomed five great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters into the family.
Dean was a much loved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Dean was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as ordained deacon, the Maude Lindsey Kindergarten Club, the Florence Study Club and Silver Belles. For many years she was a teacher at First Presbyterian Kindergarten and a reading aide at Harlan and Powell Elementary schools. She was awarded Lifetime Membership in Presbyterian Women.
The service to remember her life will be Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Florence, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Gillespie officiating. A time of visitation will take place in the church fellowship hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be donated to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 224 E. Mobile St., Florence, AL 35630.
