Ms. Margaret King, age 88, of Joppa, Alabama passed away at her residence on Thursday morning, May 22, 2025. Margaret was born August 3, 1936 in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania to John James Elsbury and Rose Ann Beers Elsbury. She had been a resident of the Joppa community for 2 ½ years. She was of the Nazarene faith.
Margaret took great pride in raising and providing for her family. She had a talent for sewing, and loved cooking and preparing special family meals. Margaret’s joy in attending church services and camp meetings illustrated her deep spirituality and her love for fellowship with others. Though she will be deeply missed, Margaret’s life story continues to inspire and her memory will forever be etched into the hearts of those who knew her.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Matthew James King, Wayne Clark King and Stephen Ardale King (Jennifer Dawn); and daughters, Aloma J. Goodman, Tonia Lorene Hanschak (David) and Wretha R. Gutierrex (James); Sister, Dolly Elsbury; twenty-five grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, John and Rose Ann Elsbury, Margaret is preceded in death by her son, Harold William King and several siblings.
Services for Margaret will be Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Peace and Love Church in Joppa, Alabama. The visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the service begins at 2:00 pm. Reverand Timothy Zimmerman and Stephen King will be officiating services. Burial will be in New Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Wayne King, Matthew King, Stephen King, Kenneth Goodman Sr. Kenneth Goodman Jr. and Matthew King II. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel entrusted with arrangements.
