Madonna Lena Harris, 59, of Cartersville, Georgia, formerly of Fort Payne, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025. She was a graduate of Jacksonville State University. For 35 years, she taught first and second grade at Emerson Elementary. She loved to teach children to read and a former principal once said “I believe she could teach a rock to read!”
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Davis and Rev. Brian Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 noon until the 2 p.m. hour of service.
She is survived by her parents James Leon and Sue Harris; brother James Leon Harris, Jr. and wife Sharon; nieces and nephews Morgan Benson and husband Sam, Hannah Harris, Dalton Harris, and Jill Harris; great-nieces Avery, Marlee, and Penny Benson; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Wilson Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Payne is in charge of arrangements.
