Mr. Lynell “Sonny” Hudgins, age 84, of Arab, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, January 19, 2026. Born on April 6, 1941, in Blountsville, AL, Sonny was the son of John Ernest Hudgins and Francis Lee Franklin Hudgins.
Sonny was the proud owner and operator of Hudgins Concrete, where he dedicated years to the concrete business. Known for his tireless work ethic, Sonny was respected throughout the community as a true hard worker who never let much keep him down.
Those who knew Sonny will remember his unique way of talking and his love for “piddling” around—always staying busy with one project or another. He was also known for his sharp mind, particularly his knack for mathematics, earning him the reputation of being a “math wiz” among family.
Sonny is survived by his daughters, Sonya Bazzel and Sunda Powers (Paul); six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Billy John Hudgins; sisters, Marcell Walling (Clifford), and Shirley West.
Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, John and Francis Hudgins; wife, Judy Carol Hudgins; stepmother, Cora Lou Hudgins, and sisters, Jean Forrester, Helen Elison, Ruth Edward and Ruby Durham.
A Celebration of Life will be at Calvary Church in Lacey’s Spring, AL on February 7, 2026. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon and the memorial service at 2:00pm. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
