Luther Roscoe Raine, 90, died Friday, December 27, 2024, in Madison, Alabama. Luther was born on August 10, 1934, in Hardin County, Kentucky, to Arthur Roscoe Raine and Paulene Weller Croan Raine. He grew up near Fort Knox, Kentucky, and as a child could watch tanks maneuver from his front porch. He attended Rineyville High School and was senior class valedictorian. He went on to earn a degree in accounting at the University of Kentucky.
Luther was a faithful letter-writer and his monthly family letters will be very much missed. He was the uncle who understood how all cousins were related and enjoyed explaining the relationships, complete with a graph. His knowledge of the Bible was encyclopedic and he and his brother often engaged in theological discussions during visits.
Luther was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse E. Raine, and all of his half-brothers and half-sisters: Lottie Raine Tarpley Peak, Golda Raine Atcher, Mayme Raine Wallace, Arthur Burton Raine, Katherine Raine Davis, John Will Raine, Marguerite Raine Buchanan, Charles Croan, and Martha McCaughan.
Luther is survived by his nieces and nephew, Michele Raine of Ohio, Kathleen Raine Ralston of California, Randall Raine of Florida, as well as his great-nephews Devin Raine and Aidan Raine of Oklahoma. From his half-brothers and sisters, Luther is also survived by many other cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, and even a great-great nephew.
He began in the work of the gospel in 1957 in Kentucky and ministered in Louisiana, Tennessee, Ohio, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Mississippi, and Alabama.
