Louise Stone Batson – Obituary

Louise   Louise Stone Batson, of Florence, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 after a brief illness.

 

The service to remember her life will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jimmy Aycock will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be in the atrium of the church from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

 

Lou was a graduate of Huntsville High School and attended Auburn University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She was a member of the Muscle Shoals District Service League, the Salvation Army Auxilary, and a charter member of Ole Dears tennis group. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Florence 57 years and was a Past President of the Mary Douglass Bender Sunday school class.

 

She loved tennis, tennis and tennis and participated in the USTA State Championships and has Jefferson Cups to prove it. Anyone who played with her will remember, “Shut Up and play!”

 

Lou is survived by her husband of 57 years, William E. (Bill) Batson; a daughter Suzanne Morris (Barry) of Florence; grandchildren Dean Sanders (Crystal) of Birmingham, Scott Morris (Katherine) of Florence, and David Morris (Grace) of Auburn; great-grandchildren Emily, Liam, and Myla Sanders of Birmingham, Taylor, Payton and Ragan Morris of Florence, and Lainey and Crawford Morris of Auburn. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her son Robert Batson of Birmingham; parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Stone of Huntsville, a sister Dot Lehman of Huntsville, a brother Charles Stone of Gurley, a niece Landess Lehman Rawson of Huntsville, and a nephew Roy Stone of Gurley.

 

Pallbearers will be Walter Batson, Jr., Gene Crane, Robert Crittenden, Dean Sanders, David Morris and Scott Morris. Honorary bearers will be Byron Bower, Sr., Bill Coussons, Maurice Cox, Sam Hardie, Jr., and Tom Pebworth.

 

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Mary Jen Crane Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Building Fund, both at the First United Methodist Church.
