Louis (Lou) Sprader, 84, of Huntsville passed away peacefully at home with his family and priest at his side Monday.
Lou is survived by his wife of 55 years, Julia; sons Paul (Candace) of Nashville, Louis (Cynthia) of Maysville and Michael (Nikki) of Mooresville; five grandchildren, Matthew, Grace, Connor, Samuel and Chandler; sisters, Delores, Darlene, and Marian; and inlaw, Jeanne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emily; brothers, Al, Floyd, and David; sisters, Eleanor and Roseanne.
He lived daily with a code of hard work, dedication and generosity. Lou grew up in Minnesota in a family of eleven.
Lou served in the Air Force in the 1950s flying in the planes that protected our country. He moved to Huntsville in the 1960s with the space race. His team at Boeing developed components for the Saturn V rocket. He retired from Chrysler after 22 years.
His real impact was in the lives of others devoting countless hours building, repairing and helping family, friends, neighbors, and his beloved St. Mary’s Church and school. Countless can say “Lou Sprader did that …”
From delivering hot meals to the poor and sick, when he was probably more sick than them to repairing a church roof in the middle of the night, he was known. All the time making sure his sons became an architect, engineer and lawyer.
He grew up in a era where he owned a plane before a car, raised his family and cared for his wife’s long heath issues and leaving many with fond stories.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00- 8:00pm at Berryhill Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be 11am, Friday August 26th at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Holy Family School and Clearview Cancer Institute.
