Lora Mae was born in Erick, Oklahoma July 20, 1933. She was the oldest of five children born to John Delbert Reed and Lora Teola Caughey Reed. She moved to Scottsboro, Alabama when she was one year old, as her dad was from Scottsboro.
Graduated from Jackson County High School in 1951. After graduation, she went work as a Dental Assistant for Dr. C. Paul Dawson. She worked for Dr. Dawson until her marriage to William Marion Davis in 1952. They were married for 42 years until Bill’s death in 1994. They were proud parents of one son, William Marion Davis, Jr.
Upon her marriage to Bill, she moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where Bill was, employed at Wheeland Ordnance. After several years, they moved back to Scottsboro and opened the Davis Restaurant. Lora Mae had the opportunity to return to employment with Dr. Dawson to train as a Dental Hygienist. After her training and passing her Dental Hygienist oral and written exam, she continued working for Dr. Dawson for approximately twenty years as his Dental Hygienist and Office Manager. She also helped Bill at the restaurant on weekends and for special parties.
Several years later, she changed professions to become a Secretary at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in the Human Resource Department. She worked there for seven years. She later went to work as a Secretary and Administrative Assistant for Revere Copper and Brass, in the Customer Service Department, retiring after thirty years.
Lora Mae was a member of The First United Methodist Church. She was active in the Alabama Dental Assistant and Hygienist Association, Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the National Secretaries Association. She was chosen as Secretary of the year and helped establish the Dr. Charles Pendley Founders Chair Award at Northeast Alabama Community College. This award is presented each year, to an outstanding faculty member. She served on this committee for thirty-one years.
She served several years on the board of the Scottsboro Housing Authority.

Lora Mae is survived by her son, William Marion Davis, Jr. (Sara); grandsons, James Reed Davis, William Blake Davis; brother, John Wesley Reed; sister, Ruby Nell O’Rear (Jack); sister-in-law, Diane Wynn Reed; several Nieces and Nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, William Marion Davis, Sr.; parents; John Delbert Reed and Lora Teola Reed; brothers, Roy Delbert Reed, Troy Elbert Reed; sister-in-law, Anna Joyce Reed.

Graveside services will be held at Goosepond Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 with Rev. Corey Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Goosepond Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 beginning at 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home.
