Floyd Anthony “Tony” Lester, age 67 of Heflin, passed away at his residence after a lengthy battle with illness. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Robby) Adcock of McAlester, OK; son, David Anthony Lester of Durant, OK; grandsons, Nicholas T. Reeves and Bentley A.L. Seymour of McAlester, OK; sister, Diana (Kenny) Stantz of Worthington, IN; brothers, Jerry Carter of Stinesville, IN, and Michael (Serena) Johnson of Heflin, AL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Lester and Beatrice Wright.
Floyd Anthony “Tony” Lester was born in Indianapolis, IN, but grew up in Owen County, IN. Tony was a talented athlete that enjoyed many sports, but basketball is where he excelled. After high school, Tony joined the Indiana National Guard where he served honorably for 5 years before commissioning to active duty in the U.S. Army. During his 10 years in the Army, he served at Fort Hood, TX and Fort Sill, OK and also did overseas tours in Germany and Korea before he received an honorable discharge. Tony enjoyed sports, watching movies, listening to music, building models and watching the birds every morning while having his BLACK coffee. He also looked forward to spending time every weekend with his brother “Mikey” who served as his devoted caregiver and personal chauffeur as his illness progressed.
The family will have a private service at a later date.
