Linda Sue Horton, 77, of New Hope, Alabama, was born on October 22, 1948, in Waynesboro, Tennessee, to the late Ira Boyd and Louise Griggs Hunt. She departed this life on July 20, 2026 in Huntsville, Alabama.
Linda was born and raised in Waynesboro, Tennessee. She graduated from Wayne County High School in 1966, where she was a cheerleader and formed many lifelong friendships. On May 13, 1967, she was united in marriage to Tommy Horton. Together, they shared nearly 59 years of marriage and built a life centered on faith, family, and service. They made their home in Waynesboro, Tennessee, and later in Florence, Alabama, before moving to New Hope, Alabama, in 2014.
Linda’s greatest calling was that of a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was dedicated to caring for her children and grandchildren. She provided a loving and supportive foundation for her children and remained devoted to her family throughout her life.
Linda and Tommy owned and operated the Western Auto store in Waynesboro, Tennessee. After moving to Florence, AL she worked as an administrative assistant at International Bible College. She later served as the administrator of El Reposo Nursing Home before her retirement. In each of these roles, Linda was known for her dependability, compassion, and willingness to serve others.
Linda was a woman of deep and abiding faith. For the past decade, she was a faithful member of the Twickenham church of Christ in Huntsville, Alabama. Her faith guided her throughout her life and was evident in the love, strength, and devotion she showed to her family and those around her.
After Tommy suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013, Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer later that same year. Though faced with tremendous challenges, she met them with unwavering faith and remarkable strength making it possible for him to remain in the home they shared while courageously fighting her own battle with cancer for 13 years.
She is survived by her sons, Kevin Horton (Vicki) of New Hope, Alabama, and Brittnea Horton (Larinda) of Smiths Station, Alabama; her son-in-law, David May of Richmond, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Ellen Deasy (Chad), Kenton Horton, Jacob Horton, James May, Will May (Maggie), Grace Creager (Ethan), Faith Torres (Adam), Ellie Horton, Samuel Horton, and Bethany Horton; her great-granddaughters, Addison and Dakota Deasy; and her sister, Janice Springer (Donnie).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Horton; her daughter, Natalie May; and her brother, Larry Hunt.
Linda will be remembered most for her deep love for her family, her steadfast faith, and her lifelong devotion to caring for others. Whether as a wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver, or friend, she quietly placed the needs of others before her own. Her strength through hardship, her selfless service, and the love she gave so freely leave a lasting legacy in the lives of all who knew her.
Visitation will be Saturday 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Shawnettee Church. Memorial service will follow at Shawnettee Church, Saturday at 11:30 AM.
