Linda Joy Gaston Roop Linda Joy Gaston Roop passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care on March 17, 2020. She was born to Fannie Belle and Wesley Gaston, their only child, in Greenwood, MS on July 17, 1949. She is survived by her husband Troy (Jim) Roop; daughter, Candance McLendon; son, Wesley McLendon; daughter- in- law, Shannon McLendon; stepdaughters, Cynthia Marro (Joe), Lisa McLendon, Jenna Upton (Jaret); stepson, Bubba McLendon (Tammy); granddaughter, Savanna-Belle Saint; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members. stepdaughter, Stephanie Mater predeceased her in 2015.

Joy met her future husband in San Diego, CA in 1992 where they both worked for TRW, Inc. Their paths crossed again in 1994 in Arlington, VA, again while both worked for TRW, Inc. and subsequently married in 1995 in Fairfax, VA.

Joy worked for TRW, Inc. as an executive secretary in Huntsville, AL and Arlington, VA for 12 years. She affectionately called TRW, Inc. TR-Wonderful. She truly enjoyed the camaraderie of her work associates, the TRW, Inc. culture and the interaction with the customer community. Her magnetic personality and ability to interface with various personalities, in a positive manner, gained her many friends and accolades from her associates, management and the customer community. Joy retired in 2001 after her husband transferred to Huntsville, AL.

In retirement, Joy enjoyed participating in the lives of her grandchildren and their achievements. Joy enjoyed attending customer events with her husband as well as domestic and international travel adventures. She followed him through three moves before finally settling, permanently, in Huntsville. Joy had many friends in the local community, all of whom she loved dearly and followed closely as their families grew and evolved.

The family would like to thank Willowbrook Baptist Church and Pastor Mark McClelland for their spiritual support and encouragement during Joy’s illness, as well as Dr. G.S. Rao and his staff, Huntsville Hospital, Staff, Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care for their compassionate and professional care during Joy’s illness.

Joy will be missed by all who knew her, but especially by her husband who dearly loved her.

A memorial service will be held at a future date at Willowbrook Baptist Church with subsequent internment at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
