Graveside Services for Mrs. Linda Beckmann Gortney, age 74 of Oxford, will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Ararat Cemetery with her nephew, David Paden, officiating.

Mrs. Gortney passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at RMC Hospital in Anniston. She was born in Cullman and had lived in multiple states before settling in Oxford in the mid to late 1970’s. She graduated from Ayers Technical College with her LPN, and worked at RMC Hospital for nearly 20 years. When she was not at work, she enjoyed crafts, cooking for her family, reading, and canning. She played in an Anniston based Bowling League for a few years, and loved playing card games, was known as the Yahtzee Queen to her family, and was very competitive. Mrs. Gortney was a people person, and always enjoyed spreading encouragement and love with everyone. She was known for always sending special birthday cards to her family. She could cook Divinity in the rain, had a great memory, and also enjoyed singing and playing the slots. Mrs. Gortney was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anniston.

Mrs. Gortney is survived by her children: Deannia Cofield Smith of Wedowee, Emmett Charles Cofield Jr. (Lisa) and Daniel Cofield (Crystal Roberson), both of Oxford; her step-daughter, Jenell Miller of Ashland; 10 grandchildren: Meagan Cofield, Casey Cofield, Kaylee Smith, Cody Smith, Hayley Smith Wood (Jonathan), Mali Cofield, Lauren Cofield, Cade Roberson, Cambrie Walker, and Whitney Miller; 5 great-grandchildren: Alayah VanAkin, Emoree Smith, Oliver Wood, Isaiah and Milena Hastie; four sisters: Eloise Viegil of Illinois, Mahaley Lake of Fort Gratiot, Michigan, Diann Bottoms of Anniston, and Patricia Kent (Lyrie Joe) of Cullman; two brothers: Virgle Beckman of Highland Home, and Kenneth Beckmann (Linda) of Cullman, plus a large extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Johnny Joseph and Creacy Gable Beckmann; her husband, Sonny Gortney; and 13 brothers and sisters.

Active Pallbearers will be Dewayne Beckman, Gary Beckman, Lyrie Joe Kent, Jason Kent, Johnny Beckmann, and Craig Cofer.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Virgle Beckman, Jonathan Wood, Cade Roberson, Casey Cofield, and Rex Cofer.

Her visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 10:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M.
