Funeral services for Mrs. Elli Helferich Davis, age 95, of Delta will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church (North) with Elder L.C. Harris and Rev. James Benefield officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Davis passes away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at the Clay County Nursing Home.
Elli was born and raised in Oldenburg, Germany and met her future husband Henry J. Davis while he was serving there during WW II. After they were married, her husband returned to the United States, then and with Elli’s parents acting as her sponsor, she was able to join him here. She came to America through Ellis Island in New York, and had lived with her husband in Clay County since the late 40’s. Once Elli settled into her life in Clay County, she learned English and worked at Higgins Slacks over 20 years and Sewell’s over 16 years. She was also the owner/Operator of “Wood and Petals” flower and craft shop in Delta. Mrs. Davis enjoyed making clothes for her family and was known as a very good cook. She had been a member of Bethel Baptist Church for many years, was known to be very “plain spoken” somewhat feisty, and was not afraid to tell you what she thought. She was able to travel back to Germany a handful of times throughout her life with her family.
She is survived by her daughter Darlene Morris (Mickey) of Delta; four grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Johannes Heinrich Helferich and Anna Barthel, her husband Henry J. Davis, her son, Randy Davis, one sister, Martha Rummelsberger, and her brother, Rudolph Helferich.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Morris, Mike Morris, Randy Morris, Kris Morris, Ethan Morris, and Mickey Morris.
The family will receive friends at Bethel Baptist Church on Monday, November 28, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
