Lila “Polly” Pauline Dickie, age 91, of Arab, Alabama passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 17, 2023. Polly was born in Celina, Tennessee on June 3, 1932, daughter of Raymond Winfield Barlow and Ava Elizabeth Waddell Barlow. She was an Arab resident for over 60 years. She was married to James Theodore Dickie. Polly retired from the Arab City School System where she was employed as a teacher at the Junior High School.
Polly was a good and faithful Christian woman. She loved her family and her church, Arab First Baptist. She thoroughly enjoyed her position as an English teacher. Her leisure time was spent reading, gardening, and going for long walks. Polly was the perfect role model for a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Family members left behind to cherish their precious memories of Polly include: daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Robert Marmann and Jean Ann and Edward Montgomery; grandchildren, Anna, Katie, Benjamin, Jacob, Caleb, and Jason; great grandchildren, Averie and Charlie; sisters, Bennie Wilhite, Joyce Felts, Jo Neely, Wilma Capps and Liz Clark.
Proceeding Polly in death include: husband, James Dickie; parents, Raymond and Ava Barlow; son, James Michael Dickie; granddaughter, Amanda; two brothers and two sisters.
Services for Polly will be at Arab First Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Visitation will be between 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Paul Murphy will be officiating. Interment will be in Brookwood Cemetery. Pallbearers escorting Polly to her final resting place will be: Benjamin Montgomery, Caleb Montgomery, Edward Montgomery, Robert Marmann, Jason Dickie, and Mike Wood. Honorary pallbearer will be Charlie Dickie.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Arab First Baptist Church Building Fund and/or Nursery or to Hospice of North Alabama.
