Craig Peter Schmitz, age 64 of Winchester, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Highpoint Medical Center. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 26, 1960, to the late Ronald and Judith (Lyon) Schmitz. An aeronautical engineer, Craig, was employed at NASA and was currently working on the mission to Mars. He was passionate about his life-long work and frequently visited schools sharing information about the space program with students. This community involvement earned him Broadview School Volunteer of the Year. An avid outdoorsman, Craig enjoyed hiking, cruising, and traveling all over the world, especially going to National Parks. A devoted father, he along with his wife Lynn, supported their three boys in their endeavors whether it be Boy Scouts, volleyball, basketball, or helping coach Little League teams. Craig was a dedicated member of Winchester First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. His family and friends will remember his kind, caring nature combined with a wonderful sense of humor and love for his grandchildren. Craig is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Lynn Schmitz; children, Sam (Rebecca) Schmitz, Will (Amber) Schmitz, and Matt Schmitz (Caitlin Hobbs); grandchildren, Cole, Harlie, Elyse, Caroline, and Vivian; grand pups, Luna and Murphy; brother, Kurt (Peggy) Schmitz; sister, Heidi (David) Sack; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-6pm on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Rev.
