Libby Hunter Jarvinen was born on November 24, 1946 in Jacksonville, FL. In 1964, she graduated from Englewood High School. Libby then went to college at the University of Florida where she graduated in 1967 after only three years, with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism & Communications. In one of her journalism classes, Libby learned from her Professor that she was the second best student he had ever taught; the first was Dan Rather. After graduating college, Libby worked in the newsroom at the Decatur Daily. Later, Libby worked at TRW.
Libby was predeceased by her mother, Vera Arnold Kimbrell Hunter, her father, Wilson Harvard Hunter, and her brother, Sidney Wayne Hunter.
Libby is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill Jarvinen; her son, Thomas John Jarvinen; her daughter-in-law, Lynne Hutton Jarvinen; grandson, John Thomas, sister-in-law, Kay Chambers Hunter; nephews, Robert “Bob” Wayne Hunter, Wilson Keith Hunter, and Paul Bradley Hunter; great nieces, Chrissy Hunter Heise, Sheryl Joy Hunter, Rebecca Grace Hunter, Gloria Beth Hunter, Emily Faith Hunter and Joanna Hunter Tillman; and great nephews; Timothy Hunter, Steven Hunter, Wade Hunter and Jonathan Hunter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23rd at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24th in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
