Lewis Levert Rasmussen, 95 years old, passed away on December 26, 2024 at Floyd E. Tut Fann State Veterans Home.
He was born October 1929 in Plantersville, Alabama on the family’s farm to the late Lars and Willie Pearl Rasmussen. He grew up working on the family’s farm truck along with his three brothers. He married his wife, Ruth, of 70 years in 1952. Before marrying her, he had completed high school in 1947. He also served in the Alabama National Guard during the Korean War. Lewis worked 37 years for the Federal Government as a United States Post clerk, IRS agent and as a contract Specialist on Redstone Arsenal. Over the years, he received several outstanding job performance awards from the US Government. He also worked in the private sector as a bank clerk, condominium and apartment manager and finally as a part time greeter at Walmart before retiring in 2014. His family includes a daughter, son, granddaughter, two great granddaughters and two great great grandsons. His wife Ruth passed away in October 2023.
He loved his family and Jesus very much. He has lived his life as a negotiator and peacemaker, The bible says, in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God!”
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 71 years, Ruth Rasmussen.
He is survived by his daughter Sandra (Buddy) Lemley; son John L. Rasmussen; granddaughter Heather (Jimmy) Wallace; great granddaughters Annalise (Corey) Johnson and Sydney (Dylan) Headrick; and great great grandsons Noah and Daniel Johnson as well as many additional family and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, January 2, 2025, 1:00 PM at Huntsville Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation.
