LCSO Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting In Florence

FLORENCE-The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department issued a press release concerning an officer involved shooting that took place in Florence on Monday, April 1:

Earlier today (Monday, April 1), at around 11:15, the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office was requested by the Florence Police Chief Ron Tyler to investigate an officer-involved shooting involving a Florence Police Officer.

The incident occurred in the 200 block of N. Walnut St.  Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Investigators have processed the scene and will continue to interview witnesses and collect other evidence related to the incident.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the findings will be turned over to the Lauderdale County District Attorney.  There is no set time frame as to when the investigation will be concluded.

The following is an update on details of the incident:

  1. The subject involved in the incident is deceased
  2. Florence Police were attempting to serve a Felony out-of-state warrant on the subject for the crime of Rape
  3. The subject possessed two knives, one in each hand, during the incident
  4. A less-lethal taser option was attempted
  5. Body Cam of the incident does exist
