Lawrence C. Lacy died peacefully on April 15 after a wonderful life of 93 years. He was born in Decatur, AL in 1924 to Virgil R. and Manilla B. Lacy and moved to Huntsville soon after.

After graduating from Huntsville High, he enlisted in the US Army and served in WWII, receiving the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. He was also awarded the Normandy France Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty.

He was a graduate of Auburn University where he was a member of the Gold Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. His employment included years at Thiokol Chemical Corporation, Teledyne Brown Engineering and he retired from Huntsville City Schools.

He was a member of the Church of the Nativity, having served on the Vestry, as Church School Superintendent and on the Archives Committee. In addition, he was a member of the Huntsville Historical Society, Twickenham Historical Society, the Botanical Gardens and the Huntsville Museum of Art.

He developed a hobby of making some of the best cheese straws around and enjoyed donating them to the church bazaar and giving them as gifts to his friends and neighbors. Singing and dancing brought great joy to his life and he was still enjoying both right up until the end of his life.

His daughters would like to thank Morningside of Decatur and Hospice of the Valley for the loving care provided to their father and for the compassionate support provided to the family.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nancy Langhorne Lacy, his brothers, Virgil and Roy Lacy and son-in-law, Billy Pruitt. He is survived by daughters, Patricia Pruitt, Emily Owen and Laura (Carlos) Dominguez; grandchildren, Lacy (Kylan) Fitzpatrick, Adam (Alison) Pruitt, Lauren (Scott) McCormick, Ashley Dominguez, Matthew Dominguez; and great-grandchildren, Cole and Price Pruitt, Eleanor, Lawson and Marion McCormick, and Collier and Caroline Fitzpatrick.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 27 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity with The Reverend Dr. Virginia Monroe officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM in Ridley Hall at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Church of the Nativity Daughters of the King – Nancy Lacy chapter at 208 Eustis Ave. SE, Huntsville, AL 35801 or Hospice of the Valley 240 Johnston St. Decatur, AL 35601.
