Fw-smith (4 of 19) (Copy)lorence, Alabama – Newly appointed Lauderdale County License Commissioner William Smith held his first annual Open House and Christmas Party recently.  The event was held in the lobby of the License Commissioner’s office with many of Commissioner Smith’s friends, colleagues, city and county employees and other guests attending.  Commissioner Smith’s wife Laura presided over the refreshment table and insured that everyone was served a helping of the delicious cake, cookies, punch and other tasty snacks.

Two former License Commissioners also stopped by to visit during the Christmas event, former Commissioner Mrs. Peggy Killen Jones and former Commissioner and now Florence City Mayor Mickey Haddock.  Mrs. Jones was Commissioner from 1980 through 1992, and had previously worked in the County Probate Office for over 20 years.  Mayor Mickey Haddock had served as Commissioner from 1992 until being elected Mayor of Florence in 2012.

Commissioner Smith also announced that Mrs. Debbie Aday had been sworn in as Lauderdale County License Commission Chief Clerk, effective December 21, 2012.  In Commissioner Smith’s absence, Mrs. Aday, according to the Code of Alabama, shall be “vested with the power and authority herein granted to the commissioner of license.”  Commissioner Smith feels he has a great team in place and is confident that the residents of Lauderdale County will continue to be served with accuracy, efficiency and respect.

Commissioner Smith and his staff wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years.
