Larry V. Lee, 52, of Huntsville, passed away March 4, 2021 at home with his living wife at his side. Larry was born June 6, 1968 to the late JoAnn Austin Lee Stephens and Rex D. Lee in Huntsville, Alabama, where he spent his life. He loved roller skating which led him to learn to DJ. He DJ’d in his spare time when he wasn’t working or racing. His love for auto racing led him to spend most of his life attending races at Huntsville Speedway, where he met his wife, Elizabeth. They were married in 1994. They shared 26 years happily married, sharing their love of racing and family. Larry is the father of one daughter, Beth Ann Minnis and grampa of one grandson, Jaxon ‘Lil Buddy’ Minnis, both of whom he loved and cherished.
During Larry’s many years spent at Huntsville Speedway, he was a crew member of several race teams including, Curtis Neely Racing, Louie Robinett Racing, Johnny Wall Racing, Ronnie Swaim Racing, and Jeff Letson Racing, where he helped Jeff win the Williams Service Championship and the NASCAR championship in the mini stock division. He went on to become an official at Huntsville Speedway and Southern All Stars Touring Series. Larry was a loving son, husband, father, grampa, and friend and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; daughter and son-in-law, Beth Ann and Michael Minnis, Jr.; his ‘Lil buddy’ grandson, Jaxon Minnis; parents-in-law, Ray and Diane Lasater; sisters-in-law, Andrea Sanderson (John), and Jennifer McKinney (Tyler); nieces, Jenna Sanderson and Mollie McKinney; nephews, Jack, Tyler and Connor Sanderson; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents, JoAnn Stephens and Rex Lee; stepfather, Walter Stephens; three uncles; and one aunt.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James ‘Smitty’ Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearer will be Jaxon ‘Lil Buddy’ Minnis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ARK Animal Shelter or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
