Larry Eugene Edwards, 72, a lifelong resident of Garth, peacefully went to join his
heavenly father on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, after a long battle with cancer
surrounded by his family. Larry, known by most as Big E, was a devoted spouse, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. From an early age, he began his career as a third-generation logger following in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps. He had a passion for his time in the mountains and preferred to be there when not surrounded by his family and friends. He persevered throughout his illness and spent many hours working in the mountains he loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Floyd Eugene Edwards and Mary Taylor Gattis Edwards, and brothers Ricky and Chris Edwards.
Larry was survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Yvonne Cowley Edwards; son, Larry Todd Edwards; daughter, Mistie Edwards Swearengin (James); brother, Gary Edwards (Patricia); grandchildren, Katelyn and John Bennett Swearengin; and many beloved family members.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Scottsboro Funeral Home with a funeral service following at 2:00 pm in the chapel with Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Paint Rock Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ingrid Roig, Dr. Saketh Palasamudram Shekar, Dr. Paul Dang, Dr. Tres Childs and the staff of Clearview Cancer Institute, Crestwood Hospital, and the Alliance Cancer Center for the excellent care provided during Larry’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Russel Hill Cancer Foundation 3601 CCI Drive Huntsville, AL 35805.
