KILLEN-The annual Killen Founder’s Day celebration will take place Friday, August 5th and Saturday, August 6th.  Make plans to come out and enjoy these action packed two days.

The theme for this year’s Founder’s Day is celebrating the “25th Annual Killen Founder’s Day”.  The Grand Marshal for the parade will be Brenda Austin.  She will lead our parade on Friday night, August 5th starting at 6:00p.m.    The parade will run along J.C. Mauldin Highway from Brooks Elementary School to the Foodland Marketplace.

Opening ceremonies will begin in Killen Park at 7:00p.m.  There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophy given for the best parade entries.  Friday night entertainment will start soon after with local band “Dean”. Then award winning local musical artist, “Johnny Collier and the Misbehaviators” will begin around 8:00p.m.

Saturday will be full of activities starting with the Killen Founder’s Day 5K Run at 7:30a.m. and a 1-mile fun run at 8:30a.m. which will both begin at Killen First Baptist Church and continue thru downtown Killen.  There will also be a car show sponsored by the Killen Masonic Lodge 788 which will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Killen Park, in the upper parking lot by the tennis courts.  The local Boy Scouts will be selling breakfast items.  The Killen Public Library will be holding an open house on Saturday, August 6th from 9:00a.m.-12:00p.m.

Other fun activities include the singles and doubles horseshoe tournaments, and a car bash sponsored by Center Star Baptist youth.  There will be wonderful food with the returning favorite chocolate dipped frozen cheesecake.  There will be plenty of Arts and Crafts vendors.  We will have blow-ups provided by “ZaZoo Events” for the younger crowd, with Friday $5 arm bands, and Saturday $10 all day arm bands.  The Friends of the Killen Public Library will be holding a book fair at their pavilion at the park.  They will also have a coloring contest for elementary school age children.  Last, they will be holding a drawing for 2 Family Fun Baskets valued at over $350 each.  Tickets are $1 and can be purchased at their pavilion.  The drawing will be at the end of the day on Saturday.

Musical entertainment on Saturday will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will last until 9:00p.m.  Some of the acts this year will include “Sweet Sue”, “Haley Crowell”, and “Bluewater Band”.  The entertainment will close out with a performance at 7:30p.m. by a local favorite “Deja Vu”.
