Kenneth Ray Wood, age 61, of Columbia, was called home to Glory on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Ken was born on October 3, 1954 in Decatur, Alabama to C. D. and Mary Ruth Veal Wood. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management from Jacksonville State University and worked as an Op-Tech at the GM Saturn Plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Ken married his beautiful wife of thirty-six years, Bandaline Hambey Wood, on January 4, 1980. Together they nurtured and fostered numerous children that they loved. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbia, and had worked with the youth department there and also at the Beulah Baptist Church in Boaz, Alabama over the years. Ken was known to love football as long as it was Alabama, and as a matter of fact his “Blood Ran Crimson!” He always said, “Go Faster”, and loved roller coasters and theme parks. All in all, he loved children, his wife and most of all, his Lord!

Mr. Wood is survived by his loving wife: Bandaline Wood of Columbia; numerous children that they had nurtured and fostered throughout the years; sister: Evelyn (Harold) Garner of Decatur, Alabama; numerous family members and many, many close friends – too many to name.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and a funeral service for Ken immediately following the visitation on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers: the Adair Sunday School Class and the Beaty Sunday School Class, both of the First Baptist Church in Columbia, as well as the Vanderbilt MICU.

On Saturday, April 23, 2016 the family will visit with friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Beulah Baptist Church in Boaz, Alabama with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 PM with Rev. Barry Jimmerson and Rev. Tim Small officiating. Burial will follow Saturday’s service at the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Boaz. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
