Kenneth Murrell, 93, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born June 29, 1921 in Willow Springs, Missouri to Warren Mitchell and Verla Gregory Murrell. He graduated from Mountain View High School and joined the United States Army Air Corps. He served during World War II and earned the American Defense Service Ribbon, European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal, 5 Overseas Bars, Good Conduct Medal and 5 Bronze Stars. He worked for the Port Arthur News for over 30 years and was a lifetime member of the NRA and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, photography and traveling. He loved spending time with his family.
Graveside services will be 11 AM Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Dallas – Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Murrell Cross of Colorado Springs, Co; three sisters, Thelma Irene Hulett of El Dorado Springs, MO, Elmeta Burnadine Gaddy of Collins, MO, Shirley Audrey Coleman of Osceola, MO; three brothers, Alvin Leroy Murrell of El Dorado Springs, MO, Lawrence Gale Murrell of Tupelo and George Elbert Murrell of Glendale, AZ; four grandchildren, Mary Beth Hayes, Kenneth J. Murrell, Mitchell D. Murrell and Christopher L. Murrell; five great-grandchildren, Darrel Hayes, Michaél Suarez, Katie Murrell, Krystyn Vaughan and Kyle Murrell; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Murrell; two sons, Michael Murrell and Mitchell Murrell; one grandson, Scott Hayes; two brothers, Howard Murrell and Ronald Murrell; one son-in-law, Darrel E. Hayes.
Visitation will be 10 – 10:30 Monday at Jeter and Son Funeral Home, 4830 W. Illinois Ave., Dallas, TX 75211.
