Julia Gray Smith, age 96, of Athens died March 5, 2026, at Limestone Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born February 3, 1930, in Delrose, Tennessee. She was a retired teacher, member of the Logan Sunday School Class at First Methodist Church, a member of the Methodist Women’s group, a member of the Athens State University Alumni Association, a member of the University of Alabama National Alumni Association, and a volunteer for the Alabama Veterans Museum for fifteen years.
 

 

Mrs. Smith is survived by her family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virda Culps, and her husband, Mr. John S. Smith.
 

 

There will be a visitation, Sunday, March 8th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home of Athens. Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8th in the Spry Funeral Home Chapel officiated by John Ryberg with interment afterwards at Roselawn Cemetery.
 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Athens First Methodist Church, Athens State University Foundation (John & Julia Smith Endowment Scholarship), or the Alabama Veterans Museum.
