judyFuneral for Judy Ann Counts, 69, will be Sunday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, with Harry Hames officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Ms. Counts, who died Dec. 16, 2015, at Athens-Limestone Heath Care Center, was born July 5, 1946, in Lawrence County, Alabama to Russell and Mossie Counts, who preceded her in death. She was eight months old when the family moved to Decatur. She attended Moulton Heights School. She was a 1964 graduate of Decatur High School, worked in The Decatur Daily composing room for 43 years, and retired from there in 2009. She loved to travel, especially to the beach, and was also active in politics. She was a member of the Morgan County Democratic Party.
Ms. Counts loved her family dearly and is survived by one sister, Peggy Counts Holsonback, of Decatur, many cousins and friends, among them her best friend, Jennifer Chenault Wright, with whom she attended school from first through twelfth grade.
Pallbearers will be Hershel Bishop, Scotty Bishop, Gary Cosby Jr., Dalton Counts, John Godbey, Jeronimo Nisa, Michael Pollick, and Brennen Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Barrett Shelton Jr. and Clint Shelton, Rex Cheatham, Bobby Day, Marvin Hale, Gary Lloyd, and Tom Wright.
