A private graveside memorial for Judith Archer Moore Freeman, age 81 of Ashland, was held Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ashland City Cemetery with Jon Adams officiating.
Judy was born to Ashton Ross and Elner Leake Moore on August 16, 1939 in Staunton, VA. Mrs. Freeman was a graduate of Lane High School in Charlottesville, VA. Upon graduating high school, she worked as an administrative assistant at the University of Virginia. After marrying Ray, they moved to Alabama. They lived in Alabama a few years then returned to Virginia with their three children. After living in Virginia for some years, they moved to Charlotte, NC. In 1975, they returned to Alabama and have resided here for 45 years. During this time, Judy worked as bookkeeper, administrative assistant, and legal secretary for different businesses. Before retiring, she worked at the Ashland City Library. She held the position of secretary for the Clay County Historical Society since 1983. She enjoyed traveling, swimming, reading, and special holidays. Mrs. Freeman was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by William Ray Freeman, her husband and soulmate of 62 years. They have two sons, William (Bill) Ross Freeman of Gulf Breeze, FL., Kenneth Scott Freeman (Rhonda) of Ashland, and one daughter, Susan Freeman Strickland (Ricky) of Cragford, AL. Eight grandchildren, Melissa Strickland McVey (Brandon), Rickey O. Strickland (Tanya), Kelsey Freeman, Clarke Freeman, Kenlyn Freeman, Darvi Freeman (Cody Hill), Karina Freeman, Beck Freeman. She was immensely proud of her great-grandchildren, Emily, Annabell, Lane and Lily McVey, Leah, Maci and Owen Strickland, and Alylah Hill. She is also survived by her sisters, Helen Costello of New Jersey, Terry Albert (Dan) of Missouri, and Lynda Ryan of Florida.
She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
