Joyce Marie Redding Carter was born at home on Christmas Eve of 1932 in Decatur, Alabama, to Ethel Elizabeth Powers Redding and William Joseph Redding. She was married to and immeasurably loved by Oliver Carter for 62 years. She entered Heavenly rest the evening of Jan. 12, 2018, just three-and-a-half months following her husband’s entrance into Heavenly rest.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who left a legacy of grace, beauty, and timeless love for her daughter and granddaughters. She was a member of Austinville Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan Clemons (John); granddaughters, Julie Huismann (Scott) and Katie Shell (Kyle); and her great-granddaughter, Emmie Ruth Shell, with whom she was enchanted until her very last breath.

The family had a private graveside service on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018. Interment was at Roselawn Cemetery.
