Joseph Wayne Rice, 57, of Grant, passed away Tuesday.
Joe proudly served the Madison County Sheriff ‘s Department for over 30 years, dedicating his life to protecting and serving his community. Throughout his career in Corrections, Patrol, and the Civil Division, he was known for his integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Even after retiring in 2020, Joe’s devotion never wavered, he returned for the people of Madison County to serve part-time, a true testament to his character and love.
Beyond the badge, Joe was a family man. He deeply loved his family, his community, and his sports. Over the years, he coached countless children, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. He wasn’t just a coach, he was a mentor, a role model, and a steady presence who led by example both on and off the field.
Joe’s legacy is one of service, love, and leadership. The lives he touched and lessons he taught will live on for generations. He will be more than words can express, but his influence will never be forgotten.
Joe is preceded in death by his father, “Shorty” Rice and brother-in-law, Carl Farley.
He is survived his wife, Misty Rice; children, Leda Rice, Addison Rice, Bubba Rice, and Cameron Rice; stepchildren, Seth Esslinger, Hayes Esslinger, Cole Lemley and Aubrey Lemley; mother, Peggy Sledge; siblings, Tony Rice (Judy), Sheila Farley and Vicky Hill (David).
Visitation will be Saturday 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will follow Saturday at 2:00 pm.
Interment will be in Green Valley Cemetery.
