Johnnie Mae Brown – Obituary

Johnnie Mae Brown, 94, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the Meadows. She was born May 20, 1920, to John Wesley and Emma Tula Pruitt Stone. She was a founding member of Fulton Freewill Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher and on several committees. She retired as a lunch room manager, having served in several Itawamba County schools including Fairview, Mantachie, and Fulton. During World War II, she served in kitchens for the Army. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking.

Services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday, October 18, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Scott Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her daughter, Belinda Dill (Danny) of Fulton; her daughter-in-law, Marcy Brown of Gulfport; a special friend and caregiver, Edna Phillips; an adopted son by love, Terry Farris; six grandchildren, Amber Shumpert (James), Anna Porter (Jason), Noah Dill, Suzanna Searles (Andy), Amanda Brown, and Chip Brown; six great-grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Spencer Brown; one son, Richard Spencer Brown; five brothers, Cleaborn, Taft, Herbert, Ike, and Ferris Stone; one sister, Edna Stone Cofield; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Richard “Chip” Brown, Noah Dill, Andy Searles, James Shumpert, and Jason Porter.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of Fulton Freewill Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Friday, October 17, at the funeral home.
