F.12.10.23 John Smith.jpg  John William Smith passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, at his home in Red Rock. The visitation will be Thursday, December 21, between 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee.

John was born on July 2, 1938, in Red Rock and lived on the family farm all his life. He was a heavy equipment operator and worked all over the south. He loved his work and loved to be around people. He never met a stranger and if he met you once he would always remember you and tell you a good story. He loved fishing and hunting, and enjoyed deep sea fishing and snow skiing with his friends.

John is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Joyce E. Smith; daughters, Teresa Cahoon (James) and Lisa Smith; grandsons, Dustin Cahoon, Trent Cahoon (Magan), and Noah Adams (Shaeleigh); granddaughter, Jenna Joiner; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Lily, Zia, Les, and Lexi; and sister, Hilda Hester. He was preceded in death by his son, Byron Smith; brother, Robert J. Smith; and parents, Boyd and Mary Jane Smith.

A private burial will be at the Barton Cemetery at a later date.
