John Louis Conkle, age 82 of Arab, died Thursday – March 17, 2016 at Albertville Health and Rehab.
He was born on July 18, 1933 in Cherokee County Alabama, the son of Arthur W. Conkle and Dora Marie Edge Conkle. He was preceded in death by his first wife Wilma Maxine Mackey Conkle who died in 1993. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was retired from the Redstone Arsenal and worked with his wife of 20 years, Dorothy Saint Conkle at the Chevron in Arab.
He attended the Arab Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Sutton Conkle; sons: John Brent Conkle (Sandra); Brian Conkle (Tanya); step daughters: Brenda Huckaby (David), Joan Andrews (Dennis), Vickie Miller (Stan), Rhonda Hicks (Rodney); five grandchildren; eleven step grandchildren; one great grandchild; 13 step great grandchildren; brother: Arthur Conkle; sisters: Winona Campbell and Chiquita Daniel. He was preceded in death by a step son Ray Sutton Jr and one step grandchild.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday – March 20, 2016 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Brother Randall Stoner officiating. Entombment will be in Brookwood Mausoleum, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.
