John Jackson “Jack” Green, 91, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014. His family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Greenview Funeral Home. Following visitation he will be remembered at a graveside service at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Park with Chaplain Ralton McCarley officiating.
Mr. Green was born in Ensley, Ala. and raised in the Birmingham area. Known to many as Jack Green, he worked with the city of Florence at McFarland Park Golf Course for many years, retiring in 1987. He was a World War II veteran serving with the Army Air Corp and the National Guard.
He was preceded in death by Avis Green, his wife of 66 years.
Mr. Green is survived by his son, John Green and wife, Allison; sister-in-law, Diane Byrd; nephew, Michael Byrd; and niece, Sherri Klaus.
Mr. Green was a joyous person, a devoted husband, wonderful father and friend to many. He attended Broadway Baptist Church. Along with his lifetime love, Avis, he lived a life of Christian joy, caring, and compassion.
