On May the 1st John Herbert Durham, “Johnny”, stepped from our world into God’s Kingdom. Visitation will be Sunday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Andy Elliott, R.C. Scott, and Jim Cummings officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery.
Johnny came into this world on December 9, 1925 to loving parents, Robert Emmitt and Annie Lee Bolton Durham. He was employed by Reynolds Metals for 30 years where he retired as a foreman on the Five Stand. He was a Mason for 67 years and a current member of the Vertagreen Lodge and was a member of Asphalt Rock Baptist Church.
Johnny was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather loved by all children. He is known for his quick wit and joking manner. Johnny is well known for his skills as a white oak basket maker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Cummings and Weba Pope; brother, Robert “Bill” Durham
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 63 wonderful years, Lillie Mae Winchester Durham; son, Kenneth D. Durham (Carolyn); daughter, Patricia D. Johnson; grandchildren, James H. Durham, Amberlee Brown (Nick), and Tracey Cosby (Jessie); and great-grandchildren, Patrick Durham, Colton McCaig, Hunter Strickland, and Lillian Cosby.
Pallbearers will be Masonic Brethren. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Gist and Ronald Bridges.
