John Gordon Cairns passed away at his home in Ardmore, Tennessee on Saturday, December 18, 2021. He was born on August 14, 1942 in Bangor, Maine. He was 79 years old.
Mr. Cairns was a man unlike any other. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was dedicated to God, his family, and his farm. He had a quiet humor and a dry wit but took the things he did very seriously. He was a college instructor who was dearly loved by all who knew him– students and strangers alike. He was retired from East Central College in Union, Missouri.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Mann and Ruth Sharp Cairns, along with his sister Barbara Boycan, and beloved dog, Joie.
He is survived by his:
Wife of 57 years, Jeanne Holford Cairns of Ardmore, Tennessee.
Daughters, Andrea Jeanne (Duane) Foust of Madison, Alabama
Jill Irene (Todd) Leitschuh of South Bend, Indiana
Sons, Leif Edward (Yvette) Cairns of Slidell, Louisiana
Matthew John Cairns of Chicago, Illinois
9 Grandchildren, 2 great-grandchilden, a host of cousins
And his dogs Katy and Sugar and his horses, Sazzy and Kari still survive.
