On July 15, 1964, John married his sweetheart, Joan, in Jumpertown, MS. John worked for the Shelby County Government where he retired before moving to Mountain Home, AR in 1984.
In retirement John loved to fish and restore old furniture. John also held a fondness for little red sports cars. John spent many hours polishing, caring for, and cruising in his red Pontiac Firebird. In recent years, John enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, but especially football and college basketball.
John had a tender heart for animals of all kinds as well as his family. His grandchildren brought a special joy to his days.
John is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Joan; sons, Tim (Natalia) of Clever, MO and Brian (Amy) of Gainesville, MO; grandsons, Grayson Padgett of Fort Sill, OK and Colin Bland (Danielle) of Independence, IA; granddaughter, Emilie Padgett of Clever, MO; great granddaughters, Harlow and Sutton Bland of Independence, IA; sisters, Sue Wood and Martha Littleton; and brother, Donnie Padgett.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Verlon Padgett; his sister, Yvonne Padgett; and two grandsons, Hayden Padgett and Kyle Bland.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at McMillan Funeral Home with Dr. C.W. Harrison officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Timothy Padgett, Brian Padgett, Colin Bland, Grayson Padgett, and Jason Bacon.
