John D. Phelps, 84 longtime resident of Huntsville, passed away on Tuesday, October 1st. Born in Gleason, TN., he was the son of Aubrey and Ruby Phelps. He was a US Air Force Veteran serving in Korea, worked at Redstone Arsenal and with his wife Barbara owned Astro Color Inc. a photography lab and studio. Retired and an avid photographer he loved taking photos of his friends, loved ones and cat “Dennis the Menace”. John was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. A 13 year cancer survivor, he loved attending meetings with his friends at the Christian Cancer Support Group. John is preceded in death by wife Barbara. Survived by daughter Cheryl, son David and daughter in law Betty. Memorial Service will be Tuesday October 8th at Spry Funeral Home. Visitation 5:00-6:00. Service at 6:00.
