Home Going services for Reverend Joel Lee McMickin will be held at 3 p.m., on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in the Lone Star Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Evans & Reverend Jason Townley officiating. Committal service to follow in the Lone Star Cemetery in Hineston. Services are under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Brother Joel , 74, of Hineston, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the Rapides Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 17, 1950, in Russellville, AL to the union of Lee Weston McMickin & Doris Bernice Scott McMickin.
Brother Joel was a Baptist by faith, 1968 graduate of Russellville, AL High School, and a graduate of seminary college where he received his degree. He came to Louisiana and was stationed at the England Air Force Base in 1968. Joel later in 1977 met and married the love of his life & soul mate, Sally Pickering McMickin. They had three beautiful Christian children together. Even with life as busy as it was for him, he always made it a point to be faithful to attend his children’s extracurricular sport activities. Joel retired as a U.S. Mail Letter Carrier after 25 years of service and also was a retired Baptist minister with over 20 years of service. When time permitted, Joel loved to play golf, bowl, and express his creative green thumb while gardening and landscaping his yards. Brother Joel was not only passionate about spreading the gospel, but he loved to sing his praises to Jesus Christ his Savior. Joel was a loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and Uncle. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Lee & Doris McMickin; and infant sister, Marjorie Rebecca McMickin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sally Pickering McMickin of Hineston; one daughter, Kelly Jo Miller & husband, JR of Turkey Creek; three sons, Jason McMickin & wife, Danielle of Hineston, Joey McMickin & wife, Jessica of Hineston, and Greg McMickin of Pasadena, TX; nine grandchildren, Jacob, Jackson, Lee Weston, Austin, Zoey, Wesley, Peyton, Christlynn, and Presley; three brothers, Paul McMickin & wife, Edna of Haleyville, AL, David McMickin & wife, Trula of Russellville, AL, and James McMickin & wife, Jennifer of Chambersburg, PA; four sisters, Jeanette Smith, Jane Carpenter, Sharon Whitman, and Norma Smith all of Russellville, AL.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be his two sons, Jason McMickin, & Joey McMickin; five grandsons, Jacob Miller, Jackson Miller, Lee Weston McMickin, Austin McMickin, and Wesley McMickin; and one nephew, Kyle McMickin.
Visitation will be at the Lone Star Baptist Church on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 9 a.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. in the church.
