Joe Wayne Yancy, age 72, of Boaz passed away at Marshall Medical Center South on December 6, 2020.
Service will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at noon in the McRae Chapel with Jeri Manasco and Beecher Hyde officiating, Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Joe was born in Cleveland, AL to Bud Parker Yancey and Leona Whitt Yancey on December 10, 1947. He grew up in the Blount County area until he started high school at Douglas High School then enlisted in the US Navy in 1965. He put his life on the line for his country at a very young age and continued to do so throughout his adult life.
Joe married the love of his life, Joyce Landrum, on August 23, 1968. They spent the next 14 years traveling the world raising their two children, Angela and Christopher. The family settled back in the Boaz area in 1982 and Joe retired from the Navy Seabees as a Petty Officer 1st Class in 1991.
He spent his retirement doing things he loved- talking to people, telling stories of the good old days, and working in his yard.
Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years Joyce Yancy, daughter Angela Yancy, son Christopher D. Yancy, Sisters- Shirley Cunningham, Betty (Jerry) Painter, Brothers- Ed (Bonnie) Yancey,
B.C. Yancey, Lester Yancy, and Larry Yancey. Chosen Grandsons- Braxton Holcomb and Jordan Erwin, and a host of special and loved nieces, nephews, and friends.
