Funeral service for Joan Marie Garner Lopez, 63, of Decatur, will be Saturday, December 9, 2017, noon at Westmeade Baptist Church with Justin McAlpin and Danny Lopez officiating, and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service at the church. Interment will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Lopez, who died Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Decatur Morgan Hospital surrounded by her family, was born January 2, 1954, in Flint, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Monroe Garner and Esther Marie Smith Garner. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a great love for the Lord, spending time with family and friends, and playing tennis.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Michael E. Lopez; son, Christopher (Angela); two daughters, Jennifer (Edward Newland) and Sandra (Steven Faulkner); brother, Terry Garner (Nell); and six grandchildren, Erika, Ashley, and Kinlea Newland, and Sarah, Samantha, and Seth Faulkner.
