Jo Ann Persell Green, aged 80, of Athens, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025, at Limestone Health and Rehab. Born on February 21st, 1945, in Athens, Alabama, Jo Ann was the daughter of Verlan Elisha Persell and Amanda Jane Cochran Persell.
Jo Ann is lovingly remembered by her sons, Jonathan Wade Green and Preston Scott Green (Heather). Her legacy extends to her grandchildren: Nicholas Green, Leara Green, Lydia Green, Allison Johnson, and Ethan Johnson. Jo Ann also leaves behind her sisters, Mary Alice Lomax, Margaret Green, and Janie Burkett (Kenneth), and her brothers, Bob Persell (Elaine) and Foy Persell (Janice). She is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and her beloved friends from Jo Ann’s Beauty Shop.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband William Wade Green, her sisters Sarah White and Mattie Faye Shepherd, and her brother Eugene Persell.
A graveside service to honor Jo Ann’s life will be held on Monday, June 16th, 2025, at Wallace Cemetery at 11:00 AM, with Jeff May officiating. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Green, Preston Green, Nicholas Green, Curtin Lomax, Lynn Persell, Terry Persell, and Stephen Persell. Honorary pallbearers will be Foy Persell and Bob Persell.
Jo Ann was married to the love of her life, Wade, for 53 years. She poured her hear into her children and grandchildren, and was a God-given foundation in her family’s life. For 55 years, she proudly owned Jo Ann’s Beauty Shop, where her clients felt more like family, and she used her God-given talent to serve others with kindness and grace. Her warm smile touched everyone she met.
Jo Ann Persell Green will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the love she imparted to her family and friends.
