Growing up in Knoxville, Tenn., at an early age Jim Long, 71, was fascinated with electronics and what made things work. That passion flourished when he graduated from West High School, and then the University of Tennessee with a B. S. degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Early in his career, he designed loud speakers, then more complex electronics. He holds several patents for his work. At the time of his death on July 19, 2016, in Huntsville, Ala, he was employed as an engineer at NTS in Huntsville.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Scott Long, and loving parents, Dr. Virgil E. and Genevieve Long. He is survived by sister, Lucinda Genevieve Long Hall, Brentwood, Tenn.; nephew Charles Christopher Hall, and Chris’s daughter, Christina Lynn Hall, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and nephew, Gregory Louis Hall, his wife, Sheina, and children, Genevieve Mella and Keldryck William Hall, of Tallahassee, Fla.
