Upon graduation he worked in Huntsville at several engineering companies. He eventually started his own business, Garner Engineering and Surveying Company in Scottsboro. After retirement, the rest of his years were spent with Nancy at his beloved home at the foot of Keel Mountain. He found great joy in the outdoors, and spent every possible moment enjoying God’s creations. He continued his love of building with numerous innovations and inventions which were shared and enjoyed by his many friends, family members, and neighbors.
Harlan, an active member of Gurley United Methodist Church, was a man of Christ. He loved the Lord. Nancy, his friends, and family. He had a keen sense of humor which will be missed by those who knew and loved him. During his last days he was comforted and cared for by four very special ladies: Tonya Nolan, Sherry Atkinson, Ella Justice, and Pansy Kimbrough. Many thanks to them from the family for easing his transition to his heavenly home.

2 Corinthians 5:6-8 “So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
