Jess Ray Jr Profile Photo Jess Ray Jr., of Waynesboro, TN, peacefully passed away at his home on May 15, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on December 23, 1934, in Waynesboro, TN to the late Jess Sr. and Thelma Gower Ray. Jess lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family and community.

On September 16, 1959, Jess united in marriage with Joan Parker Ray, sharing many cherished years together until her passing on March 30, 1985. He later found companionship with Myrtle Lee Ray, who also preceded him in death.

Jess’s life was a tapestry of industrious endeavors and heartfelt connections. In his younger years, he contributed his skills at the Hohenwald Rubber Plant before becoming an entrepreneur, owning several convenience stores and operating Jr. Ray’s Sawmill. His passion extended into logging and managing Ray’s Used Cars, where he was known for his hands-on approach, working on cars and engaging in wheeling and dealing with a friendly spirit.

Beyond his work, Jess found joy in spending time with friends, fixing things, and always keeping busy with various projects. His resourcefulness and warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Peacock of Waynesboro, TN; stepdaughter, Brenda Clanton (Roddy) of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Linda McWilliams (David) of Lawrenceburg, TN; grandchildren, Chris Peacock (Danielle) of Waynesboro, TN, James Peacock of Mobile, AL; and Rosalea Browning (Hunter) of Spanish Fort, AL; great grandchildren, Lydia, Nola, Carson, RJ, Jayleigh, Trevor, and Cruz.

In addition to his parents and wives, Jess was preceded in death by his son, Timmy Ray; and siblings, Earl Ray, Retha Ray, and Charles Edward Ray.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Memorial Gardens of Wayne County in Waynesboro, TN with Greg Eaton officiating. Burial to follow with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.

Pallbearers will be John Daniel, Carson Peacock, Jackson Pope, Chris Peacock, Tony Ray, and RJ Moore.
