Jerry “Jug” Gilman Netherton, 76 of Decatur formerly of Addison, passed away on October 3, 2017 at UAB Hospital.
He was born on September 26, 1941 in Addison, Alabama. He was known as “Jug” to family and friends. Jerry graduated from Addison High School in 1959, where he earned 1st Team All State Football. In 1999, he was entered in Winston County Sports Hall of Fame. Jerry opened Netherton Auto Parts in 1974, where he loved to go to work. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He earned Ford Motorcraft Signature Club Gold Award and North Alabama Shriners Club Award for several years. Jerry loved the stock market and Alabama Football.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 5-8pm at Shelton Funeral Home, Decatur. He will lie in state on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 1-2:30 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Nesmith, where services will be at 2:30pm. Brother Steton Hayes, Ronnie Privett and Ethan Netherton will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria Ann Netherton; sons, Bruce Netherton and wife Michelle, Stevie Netherton and wife Alisha; daughter, Jerri Ann Netherton Reynolds and husband Mike; brother, Tillman (Joyce) Netherton; sisters, Vivian (Harold) Bradford, Connie (Terry) Ponder; he was “Paw Paw” to 7 grandchildren, Ethan Netherton, Hunter Netherton, Brady Netherton, Haley Reynolds, Gracie Netherton, Cole Reynolds, Drei Netherton; and 1 great grandchild, Baylor Netherton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Haywood Netherton and Onie Netherton; brothers, Hubert Netherton, Wilborn Netherton, Carist, Netherton, Will Netherton, Odell Netherton, Milford Wilson; sisters, Jewel Smothers, Lena Netherton, Gladys Harper, Velma Eaton, and Obera Stewart.
