Jerry Dwayne Gibbs, age 76, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Jerry and his twin were in the first class at Columbia State Community College. He graduated with a BS degree from MTSU and TSU with a Master’s degree +30 in Supervision and Administration. He retired from teaching at EO Coffman Middle School for 40 years. Prior to Coffman, he taught and was a principal at Revilo Elementary School. Throughout his career he helped coach football, basketball, and little league baseball.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and lived a life of service and mission. He helped serve our community through the Loaves and Fishes Ministry food pantry. His love of missions gave him opportunities to work in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Because of his love for history and books he enjoyed many international trips. He continues to give the gift of life to others by being an organ donor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Flournoy and Jewel Pepper Gibbs; brothers, Harold “Buddy” Gibbs and Steven Gibbs; and sister, Carolyn Pulley.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Jo Scott Gibbs; son, Jeff Gibbs; granddaughter, Lucy Gibbs; brothers, Larry Gibbs and Gene Gibbs (Trena).
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, April 4, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 5, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 5, 2025, with Tory Shane Dillard officiating. The family suggests donations be made to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at First United Methodist Church.
