Jerre Robert Glover, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, surrounded by
family and friends.
Jerre was born on March 1, 1942 in Stevenson, Alabama. He had a great love for his
hometown and in years past he regularly attended the Depot Days celebration in
Stevenson. He left Stevenson to attend Auburn University where he earned a Building
Science degree. At Auburn, he established a foundation that would shape his entire
career and especially, his lifelong love for Auburn Tigers football.
Jerre moved to Decatur in 1970 where he would go to work for Universal Construction
Company. He was a project manager for several major jobs like Saginaw steering gear,
Von Braun Civic Center and Adtran. He would eventually be named Vice President and
served that for several years. Universal would eventually be bought out by Turner
Corporation where he served as President and CEO for several years. Jerre took great
pride in his craft, and the buildings he helped raise stand today as a testament to his
skill and dedication. After Turner, he eventually started his own General Contracting
business named Industrial Services Company where he contracted smaller jobs with
companies like Toyota. He loved his work and stayed active in it until almost the end.
What truly set Jerre apart was his heart for people. He had a rare and genuine gift for
meeting others, developing lasting connections and taking real interest in getting to
know people for who they were. This heart carried into his faith as well. As a member of
Beltline Church of Christ for more than 50 years, he served as a deacon and was most
notably known for his “Index Card Ministry”. At church, if there was anyone he didn’t
know, or thought was visiting, he made sure to give them a friendly welcome and let
them know how happy he was for them to be there. He would write down everyone’s
name and pertinent information on index cards and if he ever saw the visitor again, he
would review his index card information and welcome them again. We have been told
by many how nice it was to engage with him and feel so welcome.
Some of Jerre’s greatest joys came from classic cars, music and above all, his family.
He cherished every moment spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. There was
nothing more he treasured than time together with the people he loved.
Jerre is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Glover; his two sons, Jerre Samuel Glover
and Michael Paige Glover; his grandchildren Ben, Abby and Lyla Mai Glover; and his
sister, Judy Blevins.
Jerre will be remembered for his heart, his devotion to his faith and the warmth he
brought into every relationship he built. His legacy lives on in the buildings he
constructed, the church family he served and the family he loved so deeply.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Beltline Church of Christ. A
visitation will be from 12pm till 2pm. The service will begin at 2pm and a celebration of
life will be held immediately following the service on the premises. The graveside burial
will be on Tuesday morning at 10am.
Pallbearers will be Ben Glover, Hildreth Lyle, Wayne Spillers, Larry Garrett and Jeff
Broadfoot.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dunk Hale, Joe Drake, Chuck Elliott, Ray Solley, Phil
Hodges, Steve Chandler, Nolan Peters, Bill Pettey, Bob Walker, Charles Wilkes, Chris
Matthews and Steve Harris.
