Jeris Shallene “Shay” “JJ” Crawford, age 51, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Wayne Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Thomas Frierson officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Her body will lie in state on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Known as “Shay” or “JJ” to many, Jeris was born on August 14, 1970, in Davidson County and was the daughter of Annie Willa Dean Legg Crawford Booker and the late James Howard “Pete” Crawford. She was baptized at Kingsley Terrace Church of Christ in Indianapolis, Indiana; her most recent membership was at Trinity Garden of Houston, Texas, where she worked. She worked many years as a cosmetologist at Regis Hair Salon in the Columbia Mall and previously modeled for Barbizon. Jeris loved to make people laugh and was always the center of attention and life of the party. She was extremely family oriented and especially loved her children and grandchildren.

 

In addition to her mother, she is survived her sons, Terin “T.J.” Crawford of Columbia, Jeremiah Crawford of Columbia, daughters, LaTeris Shelton of Columbia, Terrieona Crawford of Columbia, brother, Jamie Crawford of Columbia, sisters, Yevette Sweeny of Columbia, Felicia (Mike) Sharnelle Poulson of Columbia, NaKesha Crawford of Columbia, and grandchildren, Jaydyn Shelton, Kyle Barlow, Teryn Crawford, Carsen Crawford, and Bentley Crawford.

 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Teris Crawford, and grandparents, Pauline Murdock, Dicy Louise Crawford, Murphy Crawford, Sr., Silas Legg, and Jay Hue Murdock.

 

Pallbearers will be T.J. Crawford, Ken Porter, Javaris “J.V.” Amey, Justin Bullock, Cory Crawford, Phillip Johnson, and Randell Johnson.
