Jeanne Wendy Reed, 75, of Gurley, AL passed away on Wednesday June 12, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jeanne was born on May 31,1949 in Peabody, MA.  She was the daughter of Walter Edward and Marie Anna Waring.  Her early years were spent in Lynnfield, MA and then moved to Bristol, NH as a young teenager.  She later lived in Manchester, NH, Merrimack, NH and moved to Gurley, AL in 2015.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Ralph S. Reed and her parents Walter E & Marie A Waring, her sister June Arsenault and brothers Russell Waring and Charles Waring.  She is survived by her siblings Walter Waring, Louise Ravet, Lauri Perry, Elizabeth Stedman and James Waring.  She was blessed with 3 Bonus Adult Children Linda Reed, Robert Reed and Donna Fraser and grandson Christopher Fraser.  She was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.  She will be sorely missed.

She graduated from Newfound Memorial High School (in Bristol, NH, class of 1968) and was quickly employed by Merchant’s Savings Bank in Manchester NH where she progressed to branch manager and VP.  After marriage to her husband Ralph, she worked in the Merrimack, NH Town Hall Clerks office.

As a young adult, Jeanne was Chief NRA Instructor for the State of NH. She was also a member of the Grange and Eastern Star organizations.   Jeanne and Ralph were members of the Bedford, NH Boomer’s Club. They enjoyed traveling, photography and model railroading; all of which brought them into contact with many people.  Jeanne embodied the saying that “she’d never met a stranger”, always being first to smile and engage with her generous spirit.  Jeanne & Ralph – both devout Christians – were always active in their church and volunteered in many capacities including the Merrimack, NH and Gurley, AL fire departments, prison ministries & hospice programs to name a few of many!

Two Celebration of Life Ceremonies will be held in her honor.  First one will be on July 14, 2024 at 3 pm at the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church in Gurley, AL and then a second one will be held on September 28, 2024 10 am @ the Living Hope Church in Laconia, NH.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to your choice of the following churches 1) Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, 731 Cherry Tree Rd., Gurley, AL 35748, 2) Alexandria United Methodist Church, 12 Washburn Rd., Alexandria, NH or 3) Living Hope – Lakeport, 50 Washington St., Laconia, NH  03246

Cremation care was provided by BerryHill Funeral Home and Crematory in Huntsville, Alabama.
